Darlington -- Bert Hampton, 80, a lifelong resident of Darlington died at his home at 9:50 a.m. Saturday. He had been in failing health for five years and became seriously ill Friday. Mr. Hampton was born Oct 17, 1880, the son of Rebecca Booher and Martin D. Hampton in the Lutheran community near Darlington. On Jan 14, 1909, he married Violet Blanton at Darlington. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago. A retired farmer, Mr. Hampton had attended Montgomery County schools. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Survivors include Mr. Hampton's wife, a daughter, Mrs. James S. Price; a son, Eugene Hampton; a sister, Mrs. Willard Anderson; two brothers, Dan and Leo Hampton and 3 grandchildren, William, Gail and Kurt Hampton. All are residents of Darlington. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bright Funeral Home, Darlington. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. - kbz
